UK MMA News
Q: Ben last time we saw you in action was at UCMMA 28 and you looked particularly dominating. How have things been since then?
A: I have had a lot to deal with emotionally before and after my last fight. It hasn’t been easy keeping my head in the game but like any other true professional I have just been focusing on continually improving as a complete Mixed Martial Artist.
Q: It was recently announced that you would take on Mark Weir in the UCMMA Middleweight Tournament, which I was very much looking forward to but following injuries you will now be taking on Tautvydas Lileikis. How hard is to adapt to a new opponent when your focus has solely been on a different fighter so close to the fight?
A: These things happen but it is a bit annoying when people pull out so late and you have to change your game plan. Anyway, I think training for someone with Mark’s experience has been good for me. I do not believe that Tautvydas Lileikis is going to be as challenging as beating an ex UFC vet but I never like to underestimate my opponents.
Q: Was it disappointing finding out that Weir was injured and had to pull out of the fight?
A: Yeah like I said I don’t know how severe his injury was but I fought my last fight with an injury. Anyway I am disappointed because I think it would have been a good fight for the UCMMA fans.
Q: Do you feel that Tautvydas Lileikis poses as many threats as Mark Weir would have?
A: It’s difficult to tell. I know Mark is far more experienced and has a good all round game but his last fights suggest that he isn’t the great fighter he used to be. I think Mark is a more skillful fighter for sure. We only found out about Tautvydas Lileikis recently and there isn’t as many videos to watch on him as there are on Mark.
Q: Do you know much about Tautvydas Lileikis? How do you see the fight playing out?
A: I see a knock out. Business as usual!
Q: Do you think that a win over Mark Weir as opposed to a win over Tautvydas Lileikis would ultimately have increased your stock in the UK scene?
A: Definitely that’s why we agreed to the fight with my Management and Coaches. Ultimately it’s only by beating the bigger names that you become recognized and respected by the fans of MMA. Plus you always learn and develop more from the challenging fights.
Q: Finally is there anyone you would like to thank or mention?
A: I would like to thank all the people around me who are helping me develop as fighter. People like Alan Keddle and Jude Samuel and Andrew Marshall. I would also like to thank Dynamic fightwear and Dynamix Nutrition and my management team at Pro-Game Management. Also for those interested in following my career you follow me on Twitter @BenCallumMma.
Finally I’d like to say Rest in peace mum you are dearly missed….
